Review chapter2 How to automatically build or update the Notes Catalog
In summary, Run the Sentinel Engine, Select "Tools/Field Mapper", and find the dBaseCustomer source in the Sentinel window. (If there is no dBase ODBC source present, read Chapter 7, section 1 How to add a new ODBC data source)
Run the Sentinel Engine, Select "Tools/Field Mapper"
Select the dBaseCustomer data source, and click on the button, and the Sentinel will begin populating this database with all the fields and tables from the dBase directory. The screen will show progress while the engine is running.
Tip: The dBase ODBC driver handles a directory of .dbf files as a database set, with each .dbf file appearing as a Table to the ODBC driver. In our example, if the customer.dbf is the only file in the c:\sentinel directory, the Sentinel will show only one table name (Customer).
After running the Sentinel Engine, switch to Lotus Notes (using ALT + TAB). Open the Field Mapping database. Switch to the view 5. Data Sources\1. Tables & Fields.
When it looks similar to the following, you have successfully built your first Table with the Sentinel Field Mapper!
Sentinel Field Mapping View: 5. Data Sources\1. Tables & Fields
Advanced Concept
If you are using field mapping along with the Sentinel Data Integrator, here is the view after the user entered the synonym metadata. Notice how legacy information has been converted to Notes-style field names! When the Sentinel Data Integrator imports this data into Notes, it reads and uses the synonyms as field names. This is great for unifying all historical data names.
